Design Goals

The goal was to transform a dated bathroom into a calm, restorative retreat centered on simplicity, light, and thoughtful spatial planning. We created a wet room with a freestanding tub, minimal plumbing fixtures, and a Japanese linen curtain in place of a traditional door. A restrained material palette of limewash walls, limestone shower flooring, and carefully considered detailing establishes a quiet, spa-like atmosphere for this Stanford campus home.

Challenges

Working within a limited footprint required every inch of the space to be carefully considered. To accommodate the generously sized wet room, we borrowed square footage from the adjacent primary bedroom while ensuring the design complied with city codes and required clearances. Every layout decision balanced functionality, comfort, and the clean, minimalist aesthetic the homeowners envisioned.
