Design Goals
Located within a 100-year-old Spanish Revival home in Alameda, California—a community known for its rich collection of historic Spanish-style architecture—this primary bathroom renovation was designed to carefully balance respect for the home’s original character with modern livability. The goal was to honor the home’s architectural heritage while introducing contemporary functionality that will serve the homeowners for years to come.
Challenges
The existing plumbing locations needed to remain largely intact, requiring creative planning to achieve the desired layout. The design also thoughtfully incorporated aging-in-place principles, ensuring the bathroom could comfortably support the homeowners' future needs without compromising its beauty.
At the project's completion, the homeowner described the finished space in one word: "Magnificent."
